Lee McDonald 'Sonic Reverber' (2012)

Lee McDonald ‘Sonic Reverber’ (2012)

Lee McDonald is a kinetic, local artist who works with exploring mechanical processes with objects and materials. Lee likes to work with a variation of materials ranging from found objects which have been previously used to materials such as wood, metal and motors. Many of his projects focus on kinetic movement and how he can change these effects through different materials. When designing his work, Lee creates prototypes which he feels is the most exciting part of his work due to the experimentation involved. Many of his pieces, such as Sonic Reverber (2012), act as a participatory artwork and can be shown in public spaces. In our initial meetings for the Council House project, we had decided on showing a kinetic artwork for viewers to participate with in the space. Helanie Moore discussed having a contact between herself and Lee and how his style of artwork would be exactly what we were looking for in the project. As a group we decided on asking Lee if there was a possibility in showing his sculpture piece Sonic Reverber (2012) within Plymouth City Council House, however Lee discussed an interest in collaborating with us in order to create a new kinetic piece which would be more suited to the space.
